am very humbled and honored by the support I received. I promise you I
will always remember I work for you. On behalf of the citizens of
District 6,I would like to thank Mr.Motz for the 12 years of service
he gave to York County. A very special thanks is due to all my campaign
volunteers for their many hours of dedicated hard work over the past 6
months. Success was not possible without them.I also want to say thank
you to all my friends and supporters. Now my work begins for the people
of York County. My goal is to have a town hall meeting at least every 6
months to hear the needs of the people. It will be my pleasure to serve
you.

Negative Campaign Calls Warrant Response From Blackwell Campaign:

I want to thank the voters for the tremendous support and confidence expressed in my ability to serve on the York County Council at the June 8 Primary. Being the person with the highest vote total was an honor I do not take lightly. However , since the primary had 4 people running , a runoff of the two candidates with the highest vote totals is required this Tuesday, June 22. My opponent in this race is the 12 year incumbent, Buddy Motz, who came in second in the primary. Sadly, it has come to my attention this evening (Friday) that my opponent’s campaign, in desperation the weekend before the runoff, is spreading misinformation to voters by phone calls saying I am responsible for present school zoning issues, including the 3 high schools.

I served on the Rock Hill School Board from 1994 to 2002. The zoning of the 3 high schools occurred after my service ended on the school board. I had absolutely nothing to do with the zoning of the three high schools! In fact, I was surprised by the zoning that resulted since it was totally different from the proposed zoning maps I was shown by administrative staff during my service on the board. In terms of my stance on school zoning in general, while I served on the school board ,I was always a vocal proponent for neighborhood elementary schools as well as a board member always insistent on equal and balanced middle and high schools. I was also always wanting to make sure all school district families were treated equally and fairly in addition to making sure I was a good steward of taxpayers dollars. I was not influenced by special interests.

It is now obvious to me my opponent, Buddy Motz, will do anything to keep his seat whether he has to misinform or not. He does not realize it is the people’s seat. He has not realized that for a long time. I am asking you to vote for me, Britt Blackwell, this Tuesday June 22 to send a message that this kind of dirty politics will no longer be accepted! It certainly will not deter me from doing what is right and serving the people in the proper way. It should always be principle over politics. Mr. Motz appears to have forgotten that. I would also like to note, my son will be a senior at South Pointe this coming school year and his years there have been a rewarding experience for our family. Let’s take our seat back this Tuesday by voting for Britt Blackwell.

A Message from Dr. Blackwell

Dear Friends and Supporters:

As many of you know 2010 will be an opportunity where the voters of York County can bring about positive change. I am Britt Blackwell, candidate for York County Council District 6. Today, I come to you with a simple question: Are you happy with government controlling more and more of your life and serving the people less and less?

Of course the answer is no. Government should serve the citizens and not dictate to them. It is “we the people” not “we the government”. Our county needs new, fresh, experienced leadership that will go out and solve our county’s challenges. This is why I have announced my candidacy for York County Council District 6. My focus as your next councilman will include the following issues: Jobs/Economic Development, Fiscal Accountability, Transparency with Open Communication to our citizens, especially our seniors, and Consensus Building.

York County faces tough times and our local government needs to be more accountable to you by listening. There should be a focus on a smaller more efficient government, lower taxes and always being fiscally sound. We want York County to be the envy of everyone.

I have a vision for securing the future for us and I have the values and work ethic to get it done. I hope you will take the time to look at my campaign site to see where I stand on the issues. An informed voter will select the best candidate. I thank you for your support and encouragement

Sincerely,
Britt Blackwell

Below you will see a few endorsements from people I have had public service with at the local and state level as well as others. I welcome your support and hope you will tell your family, friends, and neighbors to help me win this seat back for the people. I simply want to do what is best and I will not be swayed by special interest, as my previous public service has clearly shown.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Britt Blackwell for the past four years on the State Board of Education. During that time I have observed Dr. Blackwell working diligently to improve the educational system in our state. He has impressed me with his insight and understanding of complex issues as well as his ability to work with others. As a member of any board, individuals must be able to listen to the facts and develop an acceptable decision. Dr. Blackwell has done this. This does not mean that he compromised his standards, but he did work to build a consensus that moved the agenda of the board forward.

Considering these facts, I am proud to endorse Dr. Britt Blackwell for York County Council. If elected, I am certain the voters will reap the benefits of selecting a worthy public servant.”
