Britt is a Proven Conservative “ A Reagan Conservative” VOTE JUNE 22nd Republican Run Off

Experience/ Strong Leadership:

12 years of public service at the local and state level. No other candidate can say that.

A Change York County Needs:

To improve York County we need to change leadership to a fresh, new, experienced leader who is a true conservative. For many years government has been controlling more and more of our lives. It is time we take our government back. Government should serve the citizens of York County not dictate to them. We need to rein in the power of special interests, stop wasteful spending and look out for the taxpayer. County Council is suppose to serve the people not put them, the taxpayer, in greater debt. We, as a governing body, must work together to get York County back on track for a greater prosperity.

Working for the Taxpayer:

After years of prominence our County, like many governing bodies, has fallen on hard times. It is time we go in new direction so we can strengthen the county’s financial security. We have got to come up with a new tax structure that is fair to all residents of York County. We cannot continue to suffer with the status quo. As your next Councilman I will work to implement thorough line item budget management of our County’s finances in order to maximize dollars spent and keep taxes fair. I will prioritize programs, scrutinize spending.

Jobs and Economic Development:

With a 14% unemployment rate in York County and higher rate in Rock Hill and in surrounding counties the need to recruit more new businesses and economic opportunities here into York County is urgent. As your next Councilman, I will work with council & business leaders to recruit the best jobs and economic opportunities for York County. Our council has lost focus on the most important need of the people and new jobs and economic development should be on the top of the list for York County. We must make sure we have a balance of residential, commercial and retail development so we can help balance the tax burden. There also must be a renewed focus on tourism in York County since our state’s number one industry is tourism.

Fiscal Accountability:

I believe in limited, effective, responsible government that requires all elected officials to be accountable for our tax dollars so that every penny is spent wisely. We must manage county government like a business and ease the tax burdens on local businesses as well as individuals. We have to take a common sense approach when we are spending your money. County Council must work together and always demand balanced budgets with stable, secure general fund balances at all times.

Proven Experience:

With the continued growth of our county we must move in a concise, expedient manner as an elected body to properly serve our constituents. My 12 years of public service at the local and state level has shown me how important it is to build consensus for a governing body to be effective. It has also has given me the experience and knowledge to work with other governing bodies in an efficient manner.

Planning for Future:

While growth is inevitable, we need to make sure there is a flexible, real plan in place to ensure additional roads, schools, and other vital county services, such as fire and police protection, are in place so we protect the quality of life in York County for existing and future residents. We must have a 5 to 10 year strategic plan where we look at all aspects of growth and make sure we are prepared for future infrastructure needs to alleviate the problems that come with growth. We must never let poor planning by city or county governing bodies make victims of our citizens. The fair treatment of our citizens, especially seniors, and the protection of our quality of life in this county should be the foundation of every council action.

Pennies for Progress:

We must work to preserve and upgrade the Pennies for Progress program, but we first must clearly see how it was mismanaged and learn from those mistakes. Projects from the Pennies for Progress program in 2003 continue to be delayed due to poor planning and inefficient government management. Yet future pennies for progress project may be necessary. My stance is we were promised certain projects years ago and they must be completed first before we go to the people for future projects. No wonder county government has lost credibility with the voter. There is a cure for this problem and it lies in new leadership.

Principles:

Special interest groups do not influence my decisions. I am not a politician; I am a person who simply wants to see the right thing done. I think with an independent mind. I want every person to always be treated fairly.

Accountability/ Transparency:

As elected officials we must always remember who we are accountable to. It is the people’s seat not the office holder. Also we must inform the public before decisions are made, not after they are made. In short, I will be proactive instead of reactive like our present councilman. I will work to keep affected neighborhoods informed of any pending actions by asking the planning commission to notify me of any actions being considered in District 6 before they occur. I will hold town hall meetings at least every six months. I will always listen.
