Blackwell would make difference on council

Voice of the People Rock Hill Herald 5/14/ 2010

In today’s world, intelligence, confidence, experience and morality are exactly what is needed in our government officials! We need people who will stand and fight for what is the right, decent and the moral thing to do. In many cases, our government and big business have lost sight of those important facts.

The little guy who struggles to make a living is the backbone of this country and deserves to have his representatives look after him, his property, tax dollars and livelihood. Politicians should not get into office to better their financial position or get more involved in the exclusive high-society clubs.

One man has been in office so long he has lost sight of what is important to the people and made critical errors in judgment! One man has no experience at all with government.

And then there is Britt Blackwell, a proven leader with over 12 years’ experience in state and local government. Britt has the leadership, confidence, experience, intelligence and morality that can lead this county, and he will look after the little guy! He is a proven businessman who will fight for what is right, moral and just for the people he represents.

BLACKWELL OFFERS REPRESENTATION

Letter to the Editor

Is “change” or “representation” what we need? The word “change” has been the political hot button word for the past few years. But is “change” what we need? Or is it “representation”?

It seems that our representatives on the local, state and national levels think that they were put into office to make decisions for us. That is not representation. Representation is voting for what the majority of those you represent want, not what you, your political party or “inner circle” wants.

The person who is most willing to truly represent all the citizens of York County is Dr. Britt Blackwell. I have had the opportunity of meeting him several times and in different social settings. Each time, he was approachable, knowledgeable on county issues and willing to listen to my concerns.

I can speak from experience; each of the many times I have come in contact with Buddy Motz, I attempted to speak with him about community issues but received only a small nod or was completely ignored. I feel that because I was not in his “circle,” I wasn’t worthy of his time, even though my vote helped put him in office several times in the past.

So, this year, I will be voting for someone willing to listen to all his constituents and be an informed representative for all of them: Dr. Britt Blackwell. As a teacher, I have watched Dr. Blackwell fight for teachers, education and school children for 12 years. Now, I ask all educators to join me in supporting him for County Council. He is the candidate who will represent York County the best.

BLACKWELL OFFERS COMMON SENSE

Letter to Editor Rock Hill Herald 5-17-2010

Dr. Britt Blackwell is a very successful small-businessman in Rock Hill. He also was an outstanding member of the Rock Hill school board who served the people of his district with integrity and character for eight years. I firmly believe we need local businessman like Britt fighting for our county. They know how to take a calculated risk and build upon it.

Dr. Blackwell is a fiscal conservative who has the common sense to save taxpayers’ money with innovative ideas and a common-sense approach. He will be a councilman who will serve the people and not dictate to them like our current councilman has done in the past. Over the last few days, I have seen the letters praising Buddy Motz and have to agree we should thank him for his service on council and as an active member of the community. But at the same time, he has lost focus on what is important to the district and county, and that is his voters and constituents. He cannot continue to dictate to the people of this district as he has over the last four years!

As your next councilman, Britt Blackwell will keep an open mind to all sides of an issue. He will not cater to those who have supported him in his campaign; nor will he give in to the special-interest groups who come in and want political favors. This has ruined our political process, and the people have lost trust in our local government. Britt wants to change that and be a councilman the people can trust.

Britt is a man of integrity who loves our county and who believes that an 18 percent unemployment rate is too high for a growing community. He believes that less government is the answer and not more involvement. He believes we must scrutinize spending and focus that will enhance our economic standing in the county.
Britt’s opponent has had 12 years to help York County, and now his platform is jobs and economic development? Where has he been?
